Is your sports bra supporting you?
Whether you are going to for a bike ride, running a marathon or going to a mishfit mothers class, it is SO important to be wearing a good sports bra! I had a chat to expert bra fitter Tish Monahan at She Science in Kew to find out what makes a good sports bra, and where we can get our hands on one!
WHY DO WE NEED A GOOD SPORTS BRA?
“A lot of women opt out of physical activity as they don’t feel confident enough to work out” Tish tells us, and one of the biggest reasons this happens is that women are not comfortable with the breast support that their current sports bra is giving them.
When Tish and the team at She Science fit you with your perfect bra, they are looking for three things – Comfort, Control & Confidence. The three C’s!
WHAT MAKES A GOOD SPORTS BRA?
“What defines a good bra is the fit. You could be wearing the best sports bra in the world but if it is not fitted correctly then the woman wearing it will not have a good experience.” Tish tells us. The expert bra fitters at She Science have years of experience in fitting every type of woman for sports bras.
When looking for a well designed, good quality sports bra, she advises us that the following things are vital:
- The band around the back needs to be fitted properly and not loose.
- The material needs to be fantastic quality, with no give in it
- There needs to be firmness around the ribcage
- There needs to be good coverage! There should be absolutely no vertical escape route for the breast tissue – it may be a pretty bra, but if it doesn’t have good coverage and block the breasts from escaping out the top then it is not going to be doing you any good.
WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE ON MATERNITY SPORTS BRAS?
“When a woman is pregnant and then has her baby, her breast size and body is changing”. Tish goes on to tell us that there are a lot of maternity bras, but unfortunately not many that are built for sports. HOWEVER, don’t lose hope ladies! She science has sourced and stocks some amazing maternity bra options which are “technical sports bras, that just happen to be amazing for maternity as well” – YAY!
She Science stocks the following three bra’s which Tish highly recommends for maternity:
These bra’s are not only technically built to support you while you exercise, they can be adjusted from the front! You can release these bra’s from the front for breastfeeding, and this feasture also allows for the cup to be adjusted slightly as well to suit and support your breasts when they are fuller, or not as full after feeding. These bra’s are available up to an E-cup. Check out more of thier maternity range here!
